The history of any given church is often a bit difficult to trace because many of them began as prayer meetings that were held in homes long before they became formal congregations with ties to denominational organizations. Such was the case with Calvary Temple where local home services started in 1932 and a couple of years later led to the purchase of a different house which became known as Grace Chapel. This house was renovated in the late 30's and early 40's and was dedicated to the Lord`s work with the Pastor's residence located upstairs. The church in the meantime became formally affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. The PAOC has more than 1,100 churches in affiliation across the country. In 1950, Grace Chapel was sold and vacated and shortly after was the opening of Calvary Temple at a new location.
With God's blessing and many miracles, it would be only nine years later that another, much larger building was constructed to house the phenomenal growth of the congregation. Moving into the 1970's many people were still dedicating their hearts to Christ and the church was also seeing a substantial number of young people enrolling in Bible College and equipping for ministry.
In the early 1980's new property was purchased on the west edge of the city and another new building was erected at 679 Dundas St W. with completion and dedication of the new facilities in 1985. The church celebrated the goodness of God and was very active in world missions with teams traveling the globe and sharing the good news everywhere. In March of 1995 Calvary Temple began a new work- Desert Stream- on the east edge of the city which flourishes to this day.
In the last number of years Calvary has seen many new families joining the ministry, positive growth, new ministries blossoming, families connecting with one another, a number of salvations and baptisms. While we celebrate a rich history, it is with great anticipation we look forward to all that the LORD has in store for us in the coming days, weeks and years.
